Stal Hendrix horse of the month: Clarimo

12 August 2026

Clarimo, a nine-year-old gelding by Comilfo Plus Z, has rapidly established himself as an exciting prospect on the international show jumping circuit with American rider Alex Matz. Produced carefully from a foal by Stal Hendrix before being sold to the Matz family as a seven-year-old, the talented gelding is continuing to make his mark in top-level sport and looks to have a bright future ahead.

Age: 9

Breeding: Comilfo Plus Z x Pianigra (by Polydor)

Rider: Alex Matz

Owner: Dorothy & Michael Matz

Biggest Achievement: 2nd in the $116,050 Purina Animal Nutrition CSI3* Grand Prix, HITS, Saugerties, New York (2026)

Clarimo has steadily progressed through the levels thanks to the careful production of Stal Hendrix. Bred by Jos Emmers-Boonen, he was purchased as a foal by Stal Hendrix and was produced throughout his young horse career until the age of seven before being sold to the Matz family based between Coatesville, Pennsylvania and Wellington, Florida.

Clarimo has quickly developed into an exciting Grand Prix horse, the pair have already contested seven CSI5* competitions beginning in Wellington, Florida in February. Alex and Clarimo competed in the 5* Major League Showjumping Series for Team Archers in Lexington Kentucky in April, gaining invaluable experience against some of the world’s best combinations.

Their latest result at HITS Saugerties further highlighted Clarimo’s potential, producing a superb double clear performance to finish second in the $116,050 Purina CSI3* Grand Prix following a strong fifth place finish in the CSI3* Grand Prix at Lake Placid Horse Show at the beginning of July. These results continue an impressive upward trajectory for the Clarimo, who is beginning to establish himself as one of the most promising horses in Alex’s string.

Speaking on the talented gelding, Matz commented:

“Clarimo has always been a very clever horse. He has an exceptional amount of power and quality, and the Hendrix family have done a fantastic job producing him. I took my time getting to know him and developing his rideability so that we could really understand each other, and we have made great strides together. He has been incredibly consistent and produced some fantastic results this summer. For a nine-year-old, he is an exceptional horse and I really don’t think there is anything he can’t do. I am very excited to see what the coming years hold for him – I think he has a fantastic future ahead.”

Bred for modern show jumping, Clarimo combines the athleticism and technique of his sire Comilfo Plus Z (ridden by Christian Ahlmann) with a willing temperament and excellent rideability. His progression from a carefully produced young horse at Stal Hendrix to a consistent international performer reflects both his natural ability and the patient approach taken throughout his career.

Still only nine-years-old, Clarimo appears to have an exciting future ahead. With valuable CSI5* experience already under his belt and strong Grand Prix performances continuing to build, he looks well on course to become a regular contender at the highest level of international show jumping alongside Alex Matz.
