Pinacolada van Seldsum wins first leg of Stal Hendrix competition

8 May 2024

The Stal Hendrix competition got off to a strong start today in Koningsbosch. The KWPN approved stallion Pinacolada van Seldsum proved to be a convincing standout under Joy Lammers in the four-year-old category, while another Dominator Z offspring triumphed in the five-year-old division. In this class, the victory went to Dia-Mood Z under Britt Driessen. Teddy van de Rijt delivered the winning performance with New Hope (s.Cornet Obolensky) in the six-year-old category.

Every year, there’s eager anticipation for the new crop of young jumping talents. Seventy combinations competed in the four-year-old class, and talent was abundant in the other well-attended age groups as well.

Potential
The four-year-olds were judged by Maurice Ruisbroek and Peter Bulthuis. “We’ve seen a group of fine horses. It’s always a bit challenging at the beginning of the season because some have seen more than others, but overall, the quality was good.” Pinacolada van Seldsum (Dominator Z x Namelus R, breeders Minne and Esther Hovenga), a KWPN approved stallion, was a convincing winner in the eyes of the judges. “This horse showcases all the qualities and was very well presented by Joy Lammers. He canters with great balance, jumps with good reflexes, has a lot of scope, and is a pleasure to ride as well.” The stallion received a score of 8.9 for jumping and 8.5 for rideability. Another notable jumping horse finished second. With scores of 8.5 and 8.0, Look At Me Z (Levisto Z x Cassini II, breeders Julia van Benten and Rob Aarts) under Quinty van Doorn secured the second place. “This is also a real eye-catcher, jumping with good technique and showing a lot of potential. We can say the same about, for example, the horse that finished third, who also showed promising things and has a bright future ahead.” This refers to Uber-K van Kattenheye (Pegasus van ’t Ruytershof x Quasimodo van de Molendreef), bred by the Raman family. This gelding, ridden by Jorien Olde Heuvel, jumped to an 8.4 and scored 7.9 for rideability.

Strong competition
In the five-year-old category, a remarkable 35 out of 84 participants went completely clear in the two-phase course. Like in the four-year-olds, a Dominator Z offspring emerged as the winner. Under Britt Driessen, her own breeding product Dia-Mood Z set the fastest time, followed by Ivan Pezzim with C-Pleasure Z (s.Chacco-Blue, breeder Milestone Farm). Piet Raijmakers Jr. came in third with Offield van Schijndel (s.Diamant de Semilly). This rider brought several talents to the competition and secured places in the top 13 with three of them. Teddy van de Rijt delivered the best performance in the six-year-old category with New Hope (s.Cornet Obolensky, breeder J.J. van Tiel). Among 51 participants, 27 went clear, but no one could match Van de Rijt’s fast time. However, the competition was close on her heels as Ivan Pezzim was the runner-up with Candy (s.Balinsky) to second place, and Kristian Houwen followed closely with Niletto (s.Zambesi).

The next show of the Stal Hendrix competition will take place on Friday the 17th of May in Sevenum. Meerlo and Merselo will follow on June the 6th and 19th.
