Newmarket VM continues career in the United States
18 May 2026
In mid-May, the KWPN approved stallion Newmarket VM was sold to the United States, where he will continue his sporting career with an ambitious young rider. Through co-owner Redfield Farm, the talented stallion owned by Stal Hendrix and Team Nijhof has found a new home overseas. Earlier this year, under Lisa Nooren, the son of Chacoon Blue already demonstrated his outstanding potential at 1.45m-level, while also making a highly promising start in breeding.
Bred by Paul van Montfort, Newmarket VM (ds.Numero Uno) was purchased as a foal by Stal Hendrix and Redfield Farm after being spotted at the Limburg Foal Auction.
Living up to expectations
Following a successful stallion approval process, Team Nijhof joined the ownership syndicate during the performance test, after which Newmarket VM was licensed for the KWPN with an impressive score of 83.5 points. The first phase of his development took place at Team Nijhof, where he stood out in young horse and stallion competitions ridden by Kars Bonhof and Fabiënne Lichtenvoort Cats. Since the autumn of 2025, Newmarket VM had been partnered with Stal Hendrix rider Lisa Nooren, with whom he successfully progressed to international 1.40/1.45m-level. “Newmarket VM has always been a stallion we had great confidence in. He was well on his way to fulfilling all expectations, so it is naturally disappointing to see a horse like this leave. There has consistently been strong interest in him as a sport horse and, to be honest, Newmarket did not cover the number of mares he deserved. For that reason, the Nijhof family and ourselves jointly decided that selling him for sport was the right choice,” explains Paul Hendrix. “Sometimes it remains difficult to explain why one stallion attracts a large number of mares while another receives fewer opportunities. The first breeding results from Newmarket VM are certainly very promising and we are convinced he will leave his mark.”
Promising offspring
Among the first crop of offspring by the Chacoon Blue son are the Dutch mare championship (NMK) participants Soleil de Lys, who finished fifth in the final, and Sizora JB. Earlier this month, the latter immediately won the opening competition of the Stal Hendrix competition. Through frozen semen, Newmarket VM will remain available for breeding at Team Nijhof.
